Before the massive Czech industry and all the smaller East European scenes of Ukraine, Russia, and Romania, there was Hungary, the first country of the communist block to host porn production studios. And things got monumental rather quickly. For the porn industry, Hungary and Eastern Europe, after the fall of communism, were just like the Americas five centuries ago when colonists tapped into a whole continent of just natural beauties. Here’s how the Hungarian Porn Revolution happened!
Budapest Became The World Porn Capital OverNight
The end of 1989 was also the end of the communist regimes in Europe. And as soon as the iron curtain fell, the citizens of the newly democratic countries were eager to enjoy everything, all the freedoms, and benefits that westerners were taken for granted. Hungarians demanded Coca-Cola, Mcdonald’s, MTV, Denim jeans, and, more importantly, porn. Adult entertainment was completely banned under communism, as it was considered one of the pests of the decadent west. But people were extremely horny and sex oppressed.
Pornography had to be legalized, and it was amongst the first policies adopted in unanimity by the new Hungarian parliament. However, because the country never had to deal with porn regulations in any way, the law stated clearly that all pornography is now exceeding the control of the law. Thus, while trying to deregulate pornographic content, it also deregulated the production of such content.
The Gold Rush For Hungarian Porn
The news didn’t hit the adult industry until several months later. The first productions out of Hungary were independent pilots shot by some traveling agents in hotel rooms with local talents. But when the agents realized how beautiful and dirty the Hungarians were, but more importantly, how little they’d charge for performances, the Hungarian porn rush instilled.
Maybe the most popular directors who moved their headquarters to Hungary at the beginning of the ‘90s were Marc Dorcel and Rocco Siffredi. But it was Christoph Clark who crystalized the industry with all the networking and logistics needed for decent porn productions, while John “Buttman” Stagliano, the founder of Evil Angel, was the international distributor of Hungarian porn.
The Initial Push Towards Pure Gonzo Porn
Before the big move of European directors to Hungary, porn was very different from what we know today. The porn movies were actual movies with a plotline that would make sense of the sexual encounters between certain characters. And 50% of the runtime was story setting, dialogue, post-play, drama, and plot twists. Not only that these movies dilute the intensity of porn, but they were also expensive to make.
But Hungary didn’t offer the means of keeping up such productions. First, the girls were not actors, and they only spoke Hungarian. So the plotline and the dialogue fell from the start. And then it was only sex. At first, the directors would release feature films with minimal story segway between sex acts. Still, an improvement in the porn intensity in an adult movies. And then the directors realized that no one cares about segway between sex scenes. Everyone wants just sex.
The new VHS releases from Hungary came with kink and appearance themes. You had the Busty Hungarian Vol.1 coming only with sex scenes featuring busty Hungarians. And it was just like that for themes such as Teen, MILF, Anal, and Threesome. Later they moved to VHS releases with themes such as Bride, Secretary, Cheating Wife, etc. Although the first proper gonzo porn sites in the US didn’t hit the industry for another decade, the porn revolution in Budapest changed adult cinematography from its core. Gonzo killed adult cinematography and left us with pure porn videos.
