Our ongoing series on the news about the porn business is going on in October 2022. We have some more news about the international war on porn. And we also have some numbers on the biggest independent adult content platform and its future. With no further ado, let’s dive into the adult industry news for this month.
The War On Porn Increases In The States
There’s a lot of push in the US to limit porn creators, performers and even enjoyers. Lawmakers are trying hard to reconsider the laws on “Obscenity.” As of now, the legislation sets boundaries on obscenity based on the Miller test. This test was established in the famous court case known as Miller v. California. Under the pretext that he wants pornography banned in public schools, Republican Rep. Ken Ivory wants a reconsideration of the “Miller test.” But this could have serious implications for the adult industry, as it can be applied against producers, directors, and even performers.
The French Are Moving Forward With A Credit Card Age Verification
We’ve had rumors of the French legislative pushing hard to implement harsh age filters on adult sites. And so far, the idea of having a credit card-based age filter seemed absurd. Mainly under the gaze of exposing oneself’s online habits to banks and payment processing companies. Although these pushes seem populist until now, a French secretary of state has taken a hard position on implementing such draconic measures. Not only that, but the secretary of state adheres to the idea that accessing adult sites with one’s card could pop up in banking details and even as a notification on one’s phone.
Even The Pope Is Against Porn
Although the pope came out in support of planned parenthood, contraceptive measures, and even homosexuality, it seems like he will never show the same acceptance towards adult entertainment. In recent public speeches to his clergy, the pope condemned porn as being an instrument of the devil, which sickens the bodies and soles of nuns and priests. However, we can give him credit for facing reality. He admitted that priests and nuns have issues with letting themselves fall into the sin of pornography and masturbation. He advises his clergy to delete porn or find barriers between them and temptation.
OnlyFans CEO Plays Dumb When It Comes To Porn On Their Platform
It’s odd how all of us heard about OnlyFans solely thanks to the adult content that they are selling. But the company board is yet to admit that publicly. At a recent press conference, the CEO of OnlyFans chose to play the dumb card when asked about the numbers they pull off of porn creators. However, she was quick to publically reinsure that no ban on adult content will be implemented in the next five years of upgrades on the platform. She added that the plan is to steer the company from being mainly about adult content and making it more like Patreon. Where fans and content creators can directly interact.
However, it will be hard for OnlyFans to steer clear of porn. In 2021 alone, more than 2 million creators on the platform were putting out adult content earning them more than $4 billion, which resulted in over $400 million clear profit for the company.
