I don’t know about you, but when I am feeling lonely, or when I have too much spare time on my hands and nothing to do with it, I prefer getting lost in the universe of a free book.
And once I deepen myself in the story, whenever I’m not reading, I lust for the atmosphere described by the author and all the characters I start to know personally.
But what’s curious is that the same phenomenon appears when reading erotica.
If you get yourself a good erotic book, you can emulate an authentic sexual adventure in your head.
That’s why the men and women who read this genre find it so hard to put the book down.
The arousal is real and the things your imagination can do with the words from a book are limitless.
Erotic Books
So, why do we like reading erotic books?
Could it be because we’re perverts?
Most certainly not.
Could it be because we’re horny?
Well, we read to get horny.
I have my own theory on why people like reading adult fiction.
It’s because they feel real.
It’s because sexual desire is part of human nature.
A story without sexual fulfillment feels incomplete.
Sex is such a big part of our life and we don’t even realize it.
I could go as far as saying it’s in our DNA.
In the famous Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, after the base levels of physiological needs and safety needs, the need for intimacy comes right on top.
So, whenever you feel the need to read some erotic stories, remember that it’s in no way a deviant behavior.
It’s part of human nature.
Personally, I’ve been reading erotica even before I’ve lost my virginity.
And I remember which was the first erotic novel that fell in my hands.
It was Story of O and it was gifted to me by this lady who lived down the street.
I was friends with her son and one day she asked me if I could fix her computer.
As we were talking about internet stuff, she diverted the discussion towards pornography and erotica.
And that’s when she took out this bestselling book off a shelf in which I think she kept an entire collection of erotic novels.
I was too young to understand that this MILF was clearly throwing me strong signals, so I just took the book, and I left.
Nothing happened.
I still have the book, never gave it back to her because I was too ashamed to go back there.
And that’s how I started reading erotic fiction.
I wasn’t considering myself a bad boy for reading erotic literature.
In fact, I felt superior to other boys who were just watching porn.
And reading erotica all these years has had a great effect on my sexuality.
In fact, because I was reading more erotica than I was watching porn, my sexual fantasies were more vivid.
When you’re a developing mind, even your sexuality is developing, and you want it to flourish in a healthy way.
I don’t want to brag here, but I think erotica made me a better lover for all my past girlfriends.
And I’ll tell you why.
That’s because erotica does a better job of depicting sexuality than porn does.
I bet you’ve heard before that porn creates an unrealistic standard of sex for men.
And it’s completely true.
In fact, the phenomenon is so strong that many young men have erectile dysfunctions because the sex they have in real life looks nothing like the one they’ve seen in porn.
Well, that never happened to me.
Most of the erotica I was reading was written from a female perspective.
I actually learned about what ladies want in the bedroom from these books.
When the big moment came, I was ready.
At first touch of a real woman, I knew exactly what to do.
And I knew what to do to her.
Making love felt so familiar because it was described to me in detail from the erotic romance novels I’ve been reading.
And it’s wasn’t in any form a set of instructions on how to please a woman.
It was an introspection in what people feel when they are sharing a hot erotic moment.
Over the years, I tried my hand at erotic writing.
I can never compare myself to the big romance writers.
I’ve never completed a romance book, even though I’ve always wanted to.
But I’ve played around with short erotic fiction stories and some erotic poetry.
To be honest, I did it so that I could share it with girls.
If you mention to a girl that you like writing erotica, she will immediately ask to read what you’ve written.
It’s that taboo feeling of this genre that will make you seem mysterious and lustful.
And now, after so many years of reading erotic books, I must say that my sexuality has reached it’s peak.
I feel so comfortable with my sexuality.
I know what I am, I know what I want and I can understand what may partners need from me.
I feel comfortable in any sexual encounter.
You know how some people can’t live their fantasies because they feel shy?
Well, when you read erotica, you train your brain to be calm in such situations.
That performance anxiety will disappear and you will be able to live any kind of fantasy, be it simple role play that you want to try or a swinger experience that you’ve always dreamed of but never carried it out.
That’s why I’ve told you all these things about my experience with erotica.
I wanted to show you that erotic novels are not porn.
They are the mirror of the true sexuality of people.
They can also show you the intimate side of people’s lives, with good and bad.
For example, the bestseller Bared to You tells the story of how two lovers are dealing with their abusive past.
Other books, such as The Sleeping Beauty Quartet shows you that sexuality has been the same throughout history.
So, if you feel lonely, or if you feel like you can’t figure out your sexuality, you should go ahead and indulge in some erotica.
You’ll see that it helps in ways you’ve never thought possible.
It builds up confidence, it normalizes your sexual urges and won’t have the same effects on your sexual imagination as porn does.
And maybe you will try what I did and put some of your fantasies in words.
In a way, I think we could consider reading erotica a form of therapy and sexual healing, no matter if you are a lady or a gentleman.
